Perceived as the apogee of sexual pleasure, experienced alone or in a couple, acquired or even coveted, orgasm is a physiological mechanism full of mystery. What would be its benefits? Under what unusual circumstances can it arise? PasseportSanté tells you more about orgasm.
1. Orgasm makes you more talkative
Orgasm causes the release of oxytocin in the body, which provides a great feeling of well-being. This hormone is not only known to be the love hormone but also the confidence hormone. Thus, a person is more likely to confide in their partner after experiencing an orgasm.
2. Orgasm can be triggered during childbirth
According to a study carried out in 2013 by a clinical psychologist and sexologist, several women have experienced orgasmic sensations during their childbirth. The prevalence of this experience is estimated at around 0.3% of deliveries, it having been observed especially in the case of deliveries without epidural anesthesia or under “ineffective” epidural anesthesia.
3. Orgasm soothes migraines.
The production of endorphins linked to orgasm would have pain-relieving properties. A study carried out by German scientists showed that in 60% of cases, sexual intercourse reduced the pain associated with migraines. On the other hand, in a third of cases, it can worsen them.
4. Having an orgasm would reduce the risk of breast and prostate cancer.
Oxytocin, the hormone released during orgasm, especially female, would reduce the risk of breast cancer. Indeed, it would have the ability to limit the proliferation of breast cancer cells. Likewise, frequent ejaculations – 3 times a week, could reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer in men by 15%.
5. Some men can reach orgasm without ejaculation
There are several reasons why men can achieve orgasm without ejaculation. In some cases, it may be a disorder called “retrograde ejaculation”: the semen, instead of being evacuated, is returned back to the bladder. This disorder can appear after surgery to the prostate or bladder neck, or be caused by taking certain medications. In other cases, ejaculation may be consciously held back by the man, or simply no longer occur as a result of repeated orgasms.
6. Some women can have an orgasm while playing sports
Some women can experience an orgasm during their workout. The contraction of certain muscles would trigger the sensation of pleasure, even orgasm. In 45% of cases, the latter occurs during exercises that stimulate the abdominals, then weight lifting (26.5%), yoga (20%), cycling (15.8%), running ( 13.2%) and walking or hiking (9.6%.
